Ramsar lodge is located in the buffer zone of the Natural Reserve Volcano Cosigüina. This local Community Based Tourism (CBT) Initiative serves to generate additional income to traditional commercial activities in the primary sector (fishing, agriculture and cattle-breeding), and is part of a strategy for responsible management of natural resources in the area. The CBT Center & Lodge are idyllically located at the foot of Cosigüina Volcano and at close distance to a RAMSAR Wetlands world heritage site , extremely rich in biodiversity. A stay in the center allows you to enjoy and explore these spectacular reserves: the panoramic views, Summit Crater Lake, wetlands, tropical dry forest with hundreds of species. Start and finish your day in the inviting thermal waters, an adjacent swimming pool with mineral rich hot waters that come from an underground well connected to Cosigüina Volcano. Enjoy the healing waters of this rustic spa, with a sunset view over the wetlands.

National Park Volcano Cosigüina
You can enjoy a hiking tour, or horseback tour to Natural Reserve Volcano Cosigüina, reaching the summit at 800 meters above sea level. A great outdoor experience for body and mind, observing spectacular en-route views of the Pacific Ocean and over the Gulf of Fonseca. During this tour you will pass through a part of the largest tropical dry forest in Nicaragua, where is a great biodiversity of flora and fauna can be observed. The red parrot breeds in the Cosigüina area. At the summit you can see the contours of neighboring countries El Salvador and Honduras, and the impressive lagoon inside the crater. Natural Reserve Volcano Cosigüina is surrounded by extensive wetlands, with a high concentration of resident and migratory birds.

Wetlands Reserve - RAMSAR World Heritage site
Do not miss the opportunity to get in touch with nature, walking in one of the many wetlands areas around Natural Reserve Volcano Cosigüina and Estero Real. These wetlands were declared a Reserve for Genetic Resources in 1996 in order to preserve a species of wild maize (Zea luxurians or nicaraguensis) that is endemic to Nicaragua and found only in this area. Your bilingual guide will identify some of the many resident and migratory birds, amongst others the Blue- and White Egret, Blue Heron, and King Fisher). This particular ecosystem is rich of flora; you are bound to observe Bromeliads, Red- and Black Mangrove and Mexican Palm.

Community Farm Visit
Learn and discover how local people produce their crops, grains and vegetables in two model farms in the area: Finca la Limonera and Finca Ashley. Visit an apiculture project and interact with your hosts, emerging into local culture and authentic daily life on the Cosigüina Península.
